Step 2:Download the desktop software
Download the software and login to start trading in your paperMoney® practice account. This will be required if you wish to trade using our desktop software platform.
By clicking "Download" below, you consent to the installation of "thinkorswim" U.S. Trading Platform. Thinkorswim is designed to provide investors with tools and resources needed to trade U.S. equities and options, including: streaming U.S. market data; powerful charting packages, advance order management, sophisticated options analytical tools, integrated trader community and interactive chatting and real-time paper trading in your paperMoney practice account. You may withdraw your consent at any time by deleting or uninstalling this program. Click the download button above to start the installation and click 'Run'. The installer download can take anywhere from a couple of minutes to half an hour depending on the speed of your connection.
Once the download has completed, the paperMoney® installation wizard will start automatically. Follow the instructions and be sure to select TD Direct Investing as your account provider. Click Next, Install, and Done when so prompted for the remainder of the installation process.
Once you have clicked Done, the installation process will be complete. You will now have an icon labeled paperMoney® that displays the green and white paperMoney® logo on your desktop. If you see this icon, you have successfully completed the installation process.
Note: You do not need to install any other software. A Java virtual machine is included with this download.
Mac OS X download instructions Download
This installation requires OS X 10.4 or later. To find out whether your Operating System meets the requirements, click the Apple Menu and select 'About This Mac'.
Click the download button above to download the paperMoney® installer disk image. Once downloaded, open the disk image and click the installer application.
Once complete, you will now have an icon labeled paperMoney® that displays the green and white paperMoney® logo on your desktop. If you see this icon, you have successfully completed the installation process.
Note: The compressed installer should be recognized by StuffIt Expander and should automatically be expanded after downloading. If it is not expanded, you can expand it manually using StuffIt Expander 6.0 or later. If you have any problems launching the installer once it has been expanded, make sure that the compressed installer was expanded using StuffIt Expander. Click the download button above to download the paperMoney® installer to a directory on your PC.
- After downloading, open a shell and CD to the directory where you downloaded the installer.
- At the prompt type: sh ./thinkorswim_installer.sh

For Unix or Unix-like operating systems
- For Java 2, after downloading, type java -jar launcher.jar
- For Java 1.1, after downloading, type jre -cp launcher.jar install
- If that does not work, try java -classpath [path to] classes.zip:launcher.jar install.
- If that does not work either, on sh-like shells, try cd [to directory where launcher.jar is located]
CLASSPATH=launcher.jar
export CLASSPATH
java install
- Or for csh-like shells, try
cd [to directory where launcher.jar is located]
setenv CLASSPATH launcher.jar

Instructions (for other platforms)
Be sure you have Java 1.1.8 or later installed. You can download Java from Sun's site. In a console window, change to the directory where you downloaded launcher.jar before running the installer.
Your operating system may invoke Java in a different way. To start the installer, add launcher.jar to your CLASSPATH, then start the main class of the installer named install

Note: paperMoney® practice accounts are currently accessible through the desktop software and mobile trading platforms only.
To log in to paperMoney®, follow these instructions:
- Select the “paperMoney®” icon in the middle of the screen
- Enter your username and password chosen at the time of registration
- Select “OK” to complete the login process
