“TD Tree Days” is a new employee volunteer program launched last year by the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation (TD FEF).

The mission: to give TD employees the opportunity to get actively involved in their local communities, while highlighting the importance of healthy forests and their stewardship.

Nearly 20,000 trees in 50 communities across Canada were planted over the course of two weekends in September 2010.

Volunteers pitched in to increase the density of Canada’s urban canopies and forests.

Working with expert partners, TD FEF ensured that volunteers planted trees native to each region.

“It’s an exciting annual opportunity for TD employees and their family and friends to make a hands-on impact, by making our environment more sustainable for future generations,” said Mary Desjardins, Executive Director of TD FEF.

When Hurricane Igor battered parts of Newfoundland in September 2010, hundreds of trees were damaged.

Fortunately, TD Tree Days was scheduled the weekend after the calamity: TD volunteers planted 770 new native trees in the St. John’s area.

The launch of TD Tree Days in 2010 coincided with the 20th anniversary of the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation.

Since it was established in 1990, TD FEF has given over $53 million to more than 19,000 projects across Canada.
